The problem is Outlook is dying before it sends the notification back to the
server to delete the delivered messages. Best bet is to log into webmail
and delete the messages, or use another mail client to retrieve them.
For the PC problem, I would suggest having them upgrade. They're using 8yo

Sounds an awful lot like the old Outlook checking the mail before it's
finished downloading and removing from the previous timed check.
In short, when using pop3 all mail is downloaded and then all mail
from stomping on each other this way though if the user pulls a
doozy.
