Do you mean domain prep and add prep in the Active Directory sense?
This DNS server is stand alone, no AD. It's in a
workgroup called pixel8.com, with pixel8.com as the primary DNS
suffix. That seemed to work well when we were on Windows 2000
Server.

I can't resolve the fully qualified name of the DNS server (the
server I'm doing this from).
can't resolve using which resolver?
I'm able to resolve my secondary name server, which this server
holds it's primary zone. From NSLOOKUP it resolves just fine.

What ever the resolver is in the MMC of the Windows Server 2003 DNS
interface. I'm not sure what it's using.
