The only way of checking this verifying is the mail server logs. Can you
just browse thru the logs of mail in the spool directory it will give you
an overview of where you problem lies.

The Difference being in receiving the sending of email.
Control in terms of POP3 will be used to exercise a control for the incoming
mails so it will serve as a filter for filtering incoming mail.The same
applies to outgoing that it works as a outgoing filter for SMTP filtering.

The domlist gives a complete report of the domains mail sent IN OUT.
