Thanks Bruno – makes sense to me – should we move K16336 out of the 4.0 ticket,
and into the 5.0 one? If we enable state updater in 3.8, it need to honor our
deprecation period and can only remove the metrics in 5.0, right?

For this ticket, it'll link it to the KIP and update it accordingly. It's not a
blocker for 4.0.

I think as long as we do not enable the state updater by default and remove the
old code path, we cannot remove the deprecated metric in KIP-869. Actually, we
should not deprecate it before the state updater is enabled by default.

I see – this raises a few questions... Given that KIP-869 is not fully
implemented yet, and the new metrics are not added, I am wondering if we can
consider the other metric effectively deprecated or not?

[~cadonna] WDYT? Should we push out KAFKA-16336 to 5.0  relaese?

I noticed that KIP-869 not only introduced these metrics, but also referred to
the deprecation of another metric (KAFKA-16336).

Since KAFKA-16336 was a blocker, I assumed that this fell in that category, but
I see that KAFKA-16336 is a subtasks of a larger ticket (and thus is a blocker
for the main task?).

What would be a moreappropriate Priority for this?
