I had high hopes for your workaround but sadly it doesn't work for me. I tried
with the latest 3.2.0 version and even when I check/uncheck a box in the PNG

It seems my fears were confirmed: I tested today the packaged 3.1.2 version
available since yesterday on the Krita website and the problem's still here
