The complete process goes:
Steam (or others) triggers KWin to reset graphics subsystem -> Plasma is now
rendering to a bad address -> NVidia throw Xid 31.

More often than not, using Steam cause kwin to perform a "graphics reset".
Plasma doesn't get that and tries to render to the old addresses.
