Yep :-) I'm no Akonadi expert but I think it's fixable without changing

In my case the problem is related to the $SENT flag. Akonadi debug log says:
C: A35 APPEND Sent (\Seen $SENT) {422}
S: A35 BAD invalid APPEND command syntax, invalid

In the case of Microsoft Office 365 IMAP server, the answer is:
C: A000150 APPEND Sent Items (\Seen $SENT) {559}
S: + Ready for additional command text.
