I started a kernel bisect between v4.15-rc2 and v4.15-rc3. The kernel
bisect will require testing of about 7-10 test kernels.
I built the first test kernel, up to the following commit:

The test kernel can be downloaded from:

Title:
Replace LPC patchset with upstream version
Ok I troubleshot this problem.
Apparently, it came from the package `connman`, an Intel utility to
manage wlan and bluetooth that I installed wrongly since it's intended
for embedded systems.
Removing it solved all my problems.

Hello Indira!
Not yet. I just checked the most recent upstream version and the code
fix isn't there. I'll keep my eye on the next updates.

It wouldn't be this same exact bug as the 4.15.0-13.14 kernel doesn't
call __ptrace_may_access() when deciding to make use of IBPB
This bug is missing log files that will aid in diagnosing the problem.
While running an Ubuntu kernel (not a mainline or third-party kernel)
please enter the following command in a terminal window:
apport-collect 1723717
and then change the status of the bug to 'Confirmed'.

Linux-next commit 2be8ffed093b91536d52b5cd2c99b52f605c9ba6 does not
apply cleanly to v4.15. The commit was cc'd to upstream stable, but
without a backport. I'd like to see what upstream stable applies for a
backport.

I have a system running bionic and it's fine (see #34). Always has been. It's
never run anything else (just over 2 weeks old...). It's always had the "new"
'kernel-fixed-upstream'
after removing all older kernel versions and another reboot, the Problem
seems to be fixed. First was seen after upgrading from 17.10.
Thank you so much.
