you'll see that the fan is connected directly to the 5V power supply.
There is no way to turn it off but to cut the power to the whole board.

The naming is definitely confusing, but the starfive kernel was named
before the VisionFive 2 was about and is only needed for the VisionFive
V1 (and BeagleV Starlight) boards, where the JH7100 SoC needs some
special handling.
On the VisionFive 2 you should just use the generic kernel like the
I don't have a good explanation, but in the past I've "fixed" such races
by adding a `sync "$loop_device"` before using any of the newly created
partitons. Maybe it's worth trying.
