I have diagnosed the problem as follows.
My broadcom 43455 adapter needs:
1. a different brcm43455-sdio.txt file from the one supplied in ubuntu,

In general, it is hard to test modern kernels on artful because of the header
dependence on libssl1.1 (is it really a hard requirement?)
In any case, the fact that 2.16 is OK makes me hope that on the upgrade to
bionic, the issue will automatically be over.

I only use the internet key rarely, so it is hard for me to give any
precise indication about when the issue was introduced. I would say that
at the release of artful the issue was not there.

- Get the sources of the *current* (non mainline) ubuntu kernel
- Apply some patch
- Rebuild the kernel in a PPA (so that it can be made
Ubuntu 16.04. I'm having this issue too... "echo XHC1 >
/proc/acpi/wakeup" fixed but I don't know how to make it permanent.

same problem here, ubuntu 16.04. it is unbelievable that this bug is
being ignored. I suppose install Ubuntu LTS version because of the
support but this bug was reported since 8 years and not even assigned.
