I have found a workaround/solution for this serious problem. It is not
sufficient to fill out the fields within the Identity page - rather,
the information has to be in the Identity tab of the newsgroup server
properties.
This is a serious bug and should be resolved, because this behavior is

kerry feels significantly slower then beagle-search when there are more
results, most likely due to the fact that it does not show anything
before it is finished.
that should be changed. moreover nothing in kerry indicates that a
search is in progress. the app does not
