The solution I’ve found is a temporary one, but effective. Home Depot sells a
power called “Rat Magic”. It doesn’t kills them, but it does repel them. I have
to reapply it after rain, but they do disappear right after I sprinkle it
around. And - it smells like cloves to me, so no bad odor.

Liz,
This has been a gnarly project for me. I have tried hiring a professional
trapper () which is a temporary solution because there’s rarely just one
ground particularly if you live near wetlands.
I have lured them out with sweet fruit. Cantaloupe and watermelon seem to be
favorites.

Unfortunately I don't have any advice on deterring groundhogs, but in
Massachusetts it is illegal to relocate wild animals, though it is possible
to retain a licensed wildlife control technician to remove them. Years ago
when we lived in Arlington we had to hire someone to remove a skunk from
We have two, one living under a shed, the other under a corner of the
house. They're not damaging anything; I say let them be.

I don’t believe you can legally relocate a groundhog. In the past I’ve used
a smoke bomb in the hole and cover up the hole to take care of the groundhog

I think I’ve shared this before, but USED kitty litter is a fabulous deterrent
to groundhogs. They hate it - obviously don’t use in the vegetable garden but
if you know where their den is - put it down the hole or scatter it under the
shed - wherever they are. In my experience, this has always
I have the same issue and questions: is there any way to get rid of a

Good morning,
Does anyone have a Havahart Animal Trap (or similar) to deal with a
groundhog under our shed? Or any experience to share with trapping,
relocating and deterring groundhogs?
Thank you!
