You can replace PC + UPS system by a laptop with external monitor and with (USB) keyboard and mouse. Then you will have up to three hours of power protection:). You definitely need to select a laptop with adequate CPU/GPU/NIC for your tasks. Current (Dec 2007) Debian unstable works fine on
