The suggestions about libmlt libmlt++3 and getting same from current
debian (current there is libmlt++3_6.4.1-5_amd64.deb
libmlt6_6.4.1-5_amd64.deb)
won't install on x86_64 16.04 without getting several other things.
There are conflicts. Ugh.

With 16.04 x86_64 , Ganesh's suggestion is no help. The ppa has libmlt
6.0.0.0-2 too.

Title:
export videos without sound
libmlt libmlt++3 in Ubuntu 16.04 are still 6.0.0.0-2 .
So openshot still won't generate sound in an output video.
Debian current is 6.4.x.x for some x.x.
Openshot 2.3.4.
While nothing in openshot says what the grayed-out square/circle/slash
related to sound

This bug affects me as well. Pretty horrible.
lameinstall
libmlt++3 install
libmlt-data install
libmlt6 install
libmp3lame0:amd64
Updating libmlt fixes the bug indeed.
I manually downloaded the packages from Debian packages and installed them
using dpkg.

Just posting the solution grabbed from Ubuntu forum. It works instantly.
1 - open a terminal and type: sudo add-apt-repository ppa:sunab/kdenlive-release
2 - sudo apt-get update
3 - sudo apt-get install libmlt6
4 - sudo apt-get install libmlt++3
Thanks.

I have not been able to resolve the problem with the above solutions
unfortunately. Not with newer packages.
Although the problem does not occur when I used a seperate .ogg audio
file, only when the audio is 'in' the video file itself.
I have 2 error messages, this one starting openshot:
No
I can confirm that for me installing the above mentioned MLT packages
solves the issue.
Shouldn't we un-duplicate the #1391109, because this approach doesn't
seem to apply for the OP (Manuel Sanchez) here?

Although I've followed all your suggestion I still couldn't solve the
problem. It looks like they are not good for my architecture ubuntu 14.10.

If you take a look at previous comment, Jon have solved this bug updating his
MLT version but he was on Debian.
For you that you are on Ubuntu, follow this FAQ :

Great news. It was the second possibility even I was focused on FFmpeg.

Actually, it doesn't seem to be any problem with FFMPEG.
I found a solution to the problem here:

It appears to be a bug in the mlt package. I downloaded the linked
packages from Debian and it works now.

You
That PPA doesn't have ffmpeg packaged for Utopic Unicorn (14.10).

I confirm this bug also for Ubuntu 14.10. Architecture 64 bits.
The faq given by Olivier don't help as it's an old one and the Medibuntu

It seams that the installation of libavformat-extra package solves the problem,
