I have heard about some Educational project like the one you aim to.
I first looked at AbulEdu project before coming to ltsp, because AbulEdu
is not aim to professional use but for school use.
It is based on Mandrake.
Installation require 1 AbulEdu CD + 1 Mandrake CD.

I have solved the problem of slowness with dhcpd, simply
putting in the follow files witch machines can working, and I have
a better perfomance on booting.

What you want to be loading is a kernel (either custom made or one from
LTSP) you can download the kernel RPMs from ltsp.org
The one you want if your running the 2.08 of LTSP is
