Hamas does now describe itself as part of the *national* liberation
struggle. I think the situation is probably somewhere in the middle. Hamas
is unlikely ever to win free elections so in the event that one was held it
is likely they would be the religious end of a larger coalition.

This document by the JPLO and the full 2017 Charter of Hamas is a white wash of
Hamas' institutionalized antisemitism. The Charter was re-issued in 2017. PRIOR
to that the 1987 Charter was riddled with gross antisemitic tropes. Hamas,
publicly, hated Jews, not just Israeli Jews. Clearly, in the
Critics of Israel once occupied the fringes of the debate in the United
States. Then, in 2007, J Street was founded as a loyal opposition to the
kind of Israeli politics that received uncritical support from the U.S.
mainstream. By organizing “pro-Israel, pro-peace, pro-democracy Americans”
in
Greased by lobbying and campaign cash, tax breaks for retirement savings
are one thing Congress agrees on. But they also blow out the deficit and
add to income inequality.
