Curious since MS's developer system for the Xbox is a PowerMac G5 dual processor system and that IBM has publicly stated they are supplying what they consider to be a PPC 970 variant for the Xbox 360 ... A PowerMac G5 a relatively inexpensive system that can emulate the hardware of an Xbox.

Hiya, I just joined the list, so I thought I would stop in and say hi. I am a clone refugee and a Linux and OS X newbie. Never found where I belonged after Jobs nixed the clones. I still have a UMAX S900 (Euro) around here somewhere :-) I used Win 2k and Linux for a while on an X86 AMD

I didn't want another 32-bit system as 64-bit was starting to come into it's own, so I opted to return to my Mac roots and buy a Power Mac G5 1.8 GHz. single. To my surprise (why oh why), half a year after I bought this system, Jobs announces that Mac is doing Intel in the future.

I have been having a discussion on the fedora-ppc list about how Apple's move to Intel is probably going to force YDL over to other Power PC systems. It is a good question as to how long they will keep supporting Mac PPC systems, or what do you think? I can only go by what I have read in PR

The Xbox and PS3 both use PPC G5 chips, they are variations of the same chips used in the PowerMac G5 and iMac G5. So they aren't really custom as Apple is using similar variants. Publicly Apple has said its concern in moving away from PPC was not the current situation but the future trend

Curious since MS's developer system for the Xbox is a PowerMac G5 I know that, and I said so below, but the processor *isn't* a G5. It *does* have PPC units within it, and these will doubtlessly understand the same code a G5 would, but they are differently arranged and have several unique
