Computer crashes after trying to cd to disk directories

Hello guys, i sadly have a 60Gb external disk formatted to fat32. After mounting the disk i try to cd to it's directories but X crashed. Ctrl+alt+backspace would not work so i had to force shutdown. On next boot, i mounted the disk again and (without X running), tried to cd again and got: $cd
