The Greenwood Fire started last Sunday and grew rapidly, breaching the
9,000-acre mark yesterday while making a four-mile run as it jumped Lake Co.
Rd. 2. Unfortunately, about 1.5 miles of the two-mile, iconic "Spruce Grouse
Alley" was affected. For the first half mile going north from the Sand
John Hockema, Kimberly Emerson, and I found two Marbled Godwits on Rice Lake in
Anoka County. We parked at the first lot on Aqua Lane (east of Lake Drive),
right after the bridge, then walked south on the grassy trail and cut down to
the lake’s edge at the Rice Creek Snowmobile Club Trail
