[newbie] ctrl+s under X not always working...

Under X, my control+key combinations are not being recognized by all the X apps. Some apps, like nedit, return the actual control code (such as dc) instead. ie. ctrl+s should save the file, but I get the control code dc3 being inserted into the file instead. Keyboard: MS natual elite.
