Nah, could be that the D4X package is looking in the wrong place for
your GTK libs

By compiling from source, it's going to be FOR your system - for your

fine in W2K,
but that Xwindows hangs on Mandrake 9.0.
It seems a pity to have to choose the slower setting just because of
mandrake.

and my CDRW is mounted as scd0 on /mnt/cdrom2.
Oh, that happens, don't know why, I change the /mnt/cdrom and
/mnt/cdrom2 around in /etc/fstab entries and then they come out the
proper way round, ie, cdrom= DVD, cdrom2=writer.

I'm sort'a puzzeled by what you wrote. You seem
, if you still get IO errors, it could be a difficulty with the
drive reading the CD. In that case, try copying the whole CD to an ISO
image on the HDD. Then run the md5 sum on that ISO to verify it
instead. I have had to do this in the past.

Your onboard USB is a full hardware implementation (Usb-ohci) and your add-on
is software-driven (usb-uhci). I fear that the modules dribving these two
may not mix.

s a real great system. Sorry, there is no comparison.
My W2K OS's take twice as long as M9.0 to boot, but are just as
stable. No significant differences otherwise. I've always disliked
Outlook Express.
