I finally got the LM 7.1 Essential Package. Installed without any hitch and
it seems to work well with the hardware that I have.
Wanted to try the new KDE 1.90. Got two sources, one of RPMs built for LM
and the other are the different tars. Can not install any of those because

The only problem with Cheapbytes is the International shipping charge - The
two CDs of ML 7.1 beta cost $6.99 and the shipping costs $8.00. Cheaper
than 15 hours of downloading the ISO image (we pay by the minute for local
calls here) but more than double the price G

I was surprised to read that installing xemcas caused problems. i used the
Mandrake Updates facility and it downloaded the files and installed then
automatically. Works just perfect and yes, xemcas is great although i still
prefer the non-gui version.

trying to persuade knetstart to work. It does not - under any
circumstances. So i am back to the original question - how do i
compile/install or whatever the file rtl8139.c ?

Thanks for your message. i have the same two cards that you have and yes,
my system is configured with the rtl8139 drive which was supplied on the
CD-ROM. It does not work, though although both cards work perfectly under
Windows.
