Usually 'dmeg more' will list all the hardware tht was detected when you
boot your machine.
You can also go to this site:
http://www.cs.utexas.edu/users/kharker/linux-laptop/
to see what components you have.
After that you can use either sounddrake in 'X' or sndconfig at the
command prompt to configure your card.
