Well, I would think that the NUT Monitor gui shouldn't have anything to do with
the messages from'upsmon'. And I am also not seeing anything in the SYSLOG .
I am sure that the upsmon binary isrunning as I tried to start it, from a
terminal as su, and it says there is already an instance

This is how I have the upsmon.conf set up. The only time I get a message is if
the NUT Monitor gui is running. I open LXterminal, pull the wall plug, and I
get no messagesin the terminal.
MONITOR Asium_p700@localhost 1 upsmon jsamcr master MINSUPPLIES 1 SHUTDOWNCMD
/sbin/shutdown

I must retract my last statement. There are indeed entries in the syslog, but
I don't know if it was when I had the NUT Monitor gui running. I will
experiment and let you know.
