Mark, I found out a lot about the various Mallory distributor units by going to:
www.malloryperformance.com clicking on Tech Support, then clicking on the
Knowledgebase link in the middle of the page, and then finally placing the
words vacuum advance in the Search Terms box.
For instance, I
I have installed a like-new Mallory Unilite electronic (non HEI) distributor in

installation instructions. The question I have is, do I need to install a
vacuum advance unit or is this distributor equipped with some internal

I'm pretty sure my Unilite is just mechanical advance.

Does anyone have experience fitting gas shocks to a stock '48 3100? I purchased
some recently but they are much shorter than the Monroe units I have on the
truck now. Is there some sort of adjustment fitting that needs to be added to
take up the slack? The shocks I purchased look to be the

Ole
Casey, I'm in a similar boat. In considering various
upgrades in the safety factor on my '48 3100 I decided
to go the front disc brake conversion route. I
purchased the kit from Chevy Duty. Now keep in mind
that I've previously done brake work but only on drum
systems - not disc brakes.

Ken, I don't know why I didn't think you would need
that when you picked up the heater. Next time you're
in the Dallas Metro area let me know and you can come

Karen, I ordered a complete wood and polished SS bed

Everything was predrilled correctly and fit like a

actually a bit less than the other vendors.

power from the battery now
instead of the original
wire from the horn button is that it keeps the horn
load off of the
horn button, otherwise you'd still have the horn
across it and now
have added the additional coil load too.

My '48 3100 came to me with the horn not working - no
horn installed, no horn relay, and a short in the
steering column bearing wiring. I replaced the
steering column bearing, installed a horn, put in a
new horn button retainer and contact spring and
bushing. And I wired it all up. It works fine
I'd like to match the existing rims which are one
piece.
