I use mapp gas and don't know how many times I've had the tank tip over or hit
the torch against something.

When I installed a '57 261 in my '51 3100 many years ago, I ran into the same
problem with the radiator and fan.
I had ordered a new (std, not desert cooler) radiator from either Harmon's or
Chevy Duty, can't remember which. Had the rad for about a year before I tried
to install it.
