with the manual trans just put it in neutral and go. it will be a bear to
turn and your mileage will suck compared to a trailer but it will work. i
wouldn't tow it any faster than you would drive it. i hope your rv has a
mondo motor.

Well I do not recommend this to any one, My Disclaimer.
But at one time I used my all original 216 cu in 1950 3100, to haul
my '48 3/4 ton has a class III hitch
and it got used hard
I've al old horse trailer that has seen MORE than it's share of
moving friend's aprartments or dirt and concrete (when i wasn't using the
truck
itself
she always towed well.
she even towed my wifes dead car home, 800 miles
Thanks for all the replies, folks. It appears that towing with my '51 3/4 ton
without a trailer is probably not a good plan. However, it appears that towing
with a trailer should be OK. if I am careful. I am looking at a trailer with
electric brakes so that should help with that part. I
Myself, I bought a 59 Chevy 3/4 ton off ebay and
arrived with my tow bar to tow it home. I disconnected
the driveline and wire tied it to the frame. I started
out the drive way and turned leftthe truck
coontinued to go straight. Needless to say I drove 3
hours back home, rented a U-Haul
Anybody have any thoughts about using my '51 3/4 ton truck with a 216 and a
4:11 rear to tow my '51 1/2 ton? Anybody put a hitch on one of these trucks?
Any issues, tips, tricks? Will my bumper interfere?
Thanks,
Roy

Ole Chevy and GMC
but
there are better tools for the job, such as a modern 3/4 or 1 ton truck.

Alan I believe that you had too much weight on the rear of your vehicle. This
weight transfer will reduce the weight on the front axel, thus making the
steering loose. This also can be caused by too much trailer weight on the
hitch. with any trailer you should not have more that 10 to 15% of
I towed a '48 Chevy 2 ton truck from Fairbury NE to Chillicothe, MO with a half
ton w/235 engine. Had to take it slow all the way, 35 for a top speed. Any
faster and I couldn't have maintained control. I frequently had to go into
third or even second ( I had a 4 speed) Cornering is a bear
Can anyone tell me what kind of towing capacity I might be able to have
with my truck? I can't find it specified anywhere in the literature I
have, and I've never had a towing vehicle before so I'm pretty new to
the terminology and regulations. I'm not totally sure I'll want to tow
with it, but
Well I do not recommend this to any one, My Disclaimer. But at one time I
used my all original 216 cu in 1950 3100, to haul firewood for my wood
stove, now we all know that the bed on an AD 1/2 half ton is not that big or
deep, so I had an idea? I built a trailer that was 4'X8' by 4' deep, full
about it. If instead you're going to move cars cross
country you'd want a much heavier truck.
My two-cents...

My Family and I have towed an 18 ft. Boat with outboard engine 80 HP
its a fairly big boat, with an 1950Chevy 1/2 216 with no problems and
out pulled a hot rod 56 p/u up a hill with boats on back the 216 had
only 3 speed all original truck this was when I was in high school in
the 60's

so I may be delivering my big truck (selling it) and and thinking
of
towing my AD behind me for the return trip.
thoughts? suggestions?
i already have a tow bar. it attaches to the front bumper frame, i
replaced
2 front bumper bolts where they attach.
I have the lights, i have the safety
Double check the wheel bearings. You won't feel or hear them if they fail
while you are towing it.
