I had a testsetup with slapo-otp as well, but this module required
userPassword + TOTP, IIRC; where we cannot not have userPassword.

It’s not official yet, but the Project is planning to designate OpenLDAP 2.6 as
the next LTS release. The announcement could come as soon as a few weeks from
now. When that takes place, a date will be set for feature freeze and new
development will move to OpenLDAP 2.7.
