If you set C Binary in EnSight Gold header, you must open the file
in Fortran code with form='BINARY' instead of form='UNFORMATTED'. I

By the way there is a new plugin that was just added to ParaView, it's
called MobileRemoteControl. It's not general purpose like the
ParaViewSocketPlugin, it has no python scripting,
