Andy,
Surface LIC is now supported with 5.1.2 . Can you try it out and let
us know if you see the same issue?
Thanks,

I am having issues while running a Python script in batch mode on a server

I just tried the Surface LIC plugin, and got totally confused. Does anyone
have any directions on how to make pretty pictures using one of the Sources, or

Hello.
What are these non-zero surface vectors without slipping or moving walls ?
With NS solvers, the velocity vector in an axis system bound to a wall
should ALWAYS be zero at the wall (moving wall or not moving wall): this
is the adherence condition.
As LIC needs a non zero vector at the
Richard,
Sorry, that's my mistake.
The surfaces DON'T have non-zero vectors without slipping or moving wall.
I'm going to export surface vectors such as oilflow vector from solvers.

Hello
Which vector field are you using with LIC ?
The LIC control panel allows to choose the vector to be used, and you
MUST choose a vector field that is NOT ZERO on the surface.
With Euler CFD results, the velocity vector is not zero at the wall, and
you can use this vector.

Hi all,
I'm trying the Surface LIC Plugin.
My models are formatted as VTK MultiBlock Dataset, and there are geometries
of fluids and walls.
I'd like to visualize LIC on the walls.
First I applied Surface LIC to the walls, the results are something wrong.
Next to the fluids, they are OK.
But
I'm not 100% sure I understand the situation. A picture or sample
dataset would help. Is it that some of the surfaces don't have the
velocity field defined on them?

As far as I can see, if I generate LIC with, say, shear then you have to
use shear as the variable on the surface below the LIC itself. Would it be
possible, for example, to create the LIC using shear but display pressure
on the surface?

Are you saying LIC with one variable and coloring with another? (Not
sure what you mean by display pressure on the surface). You can
indeed color using another variable.

That is what I mean (so the surface of the object I've put LIC on to paint
as a scalar that's different to the vector I've made LIC with).
How is this done?

Hi David,
I'm on 3.14.1 (64-bit) on both Linux and Mac. Surface LIC is selected in
the same menu as Surface, Points etc. The option you are mentioning (2
places left) is where you need to select the variable to make the LIC with

The performance degradation in immediate mode is expected. If I
remember correctly, the LIC algo renders the geometry twice, once to
produce the standard rendering and second time to generate projected
vector fields which are then processed to generate the LIC image that
is then finally blended
Hi Utkarsh,
The issues may be due to my misuse of your design :). I have had
immediate mode disabled for quite some time as it had greatly improved
performance. however this seams to be a major factor in the huge memory
bloat when using LIC rep.
When I enabled immediate mode, memory usage
I doubt it's part of the design so to speak :). My suspicion is some
OpenGL buffers are not being released or something of that nature.
I'll try to track it down.

Hi,
Just a word for the people who use the surface LIC plugin.
You should take care of the projection that you use : Im' quite sure that
the surface LIC use the parallel projection mode in order to compute the
streamlines.
Thus, looking tangentially to a surface, using LIC and perspective
I've committed fixes for this to VTK/ParaView. Feel free to give it a try.
