I retrieved some old Kodak PhotoCDs with scans that I'd like to add to my
Adobe Lightroom database. Turns out Lightroom doesn't recognize .pcd files.
Also, PhotoCD seems like it's a dead format. S I need to convert
them to a non-dead format.

Thanks for the tips. PhotoCD is one of those formats that was meant to be
standard, but not really open. I think that Kodak charged pretty hefty
licensing fees to hardware and software makers to use it.
Funny thing is, I have no real idea whether the original data is 8 bit or

up the other day. Man, what a nice, nice camera. I really wish that Pentax
would release a DSLR based on that body.

With CS2/Bridge, my image input workflow went like this:
1) Take images using ACR raw format.
2) Point Bridge at my SD card
3) Open all images using ACR (3.7, I think)
4) Save all as DNG to an incoming folder

I sent an FA* 300mm F4.5 lens back to Colorado for repair a few years ago.
It came back to me horrible mis-calibrated (blurry at all apertures), so I
sent it back. The second time I got it back it was dialed in and very
sharp.

Interestingly enough, the problem is repeatable. Every time I try to use
ACR 3.7 to convert the PEF, I get the same funky artifact. So it's
something about the file and ACR 3.7.
Can anyone else out there try converting the PEF with ACR 3.7 and see if
they get the same artifact?

So I decided to purchase an end of life K10D before they're all gone. It
arrived, and it has Firmware Version 1.00 on it! Looks like I got a
beginning of life item. I suppose I could just flash V1.3 from the Pentax
website, but what about hardware manufacturing defects corrected as Pentax

So it's been widely reported that there have been some quality issues with
DA* 16-50 F2.8 lenses. Can anyone on the list report how well (or not)
Pentax USA has been dealing with the issue? If you get a bum copy, does
Pentax USA fix it under warranty? Or is buying one a roll of the dice?
I think it's a Halo Effect thing. Specifically, if Pentax is viewed as a
viable Professional Solution, the nimrods* of the world won't turn up
their noses and sniff that Pentax is not a Real Camera like a Nikon or
Canon. A few of them with more $$$ than sense will buy Pentax cameras.

Actually, I took it from the scenic viewpoint between the Mammoth main lodge
and Devil's Postpile. It was an opportunistic shot--I was vacationing with
family. I've ridden the gondola to the top of Mammoth Mountain so many
times that I didn't bother to pay the $$$ to ride it again
