Why? Only Redhat seems to use kerborized imap libs.
Excuse my ignorance, but is there no way for configure to see that the
imap libs are kerborized?

Done. I ran:
./configure --enable-bcmath --enable-exif --enable-ftp
--enable-dba=shared --enable-dbx --enable-magic-quotes
--enable-safe-mode --enable-sysvshm --enable-sysvsem
