Using -d / --data-dir should either
a) accept relative paths or
b) mention in the manual page / help message that it accepts only
absolute paths
Not working example with relative path (or just directory name):
$ chdist -d test create
I'm not sure if this completely true, perhaps the ubuntu changes are
causing a problem, I'll check later.
