Package: prboom
Version: 2:2.4.6+dfsg-1
Severity: wishlist

prboom has 2.4.7 (since late 2006). It seems to fix some bugs, so is
worth updating to.

There's also prboom-plus (prboom-plus.sf.net), which has just released
a version based on [prboom's] most recent stable version, 2.4.8
(SVN). I'm not quite sure what that means. That it's based on svn
code? That 2.4.8 is tagged in prboom SVN, but not released?

Anyway, prboom-plus is being developed, prboom seems not to be. Also,
prboom-plus seems to be a friendly fork: The target of the project is
to extend the original port with features that are necessary or useful
for me personally and to all those interested in my work. It is worth
noting that all changes introduced by me in no way break PrBoom's
compatibility with the original Doom/Doom2 engines, and it is possible
to be confident this will never happen in the future since
compatibility is as important a merit of PrBoom as it is to me.

The changelog for the latest release, 2.4.8.2, reads:

New mouse code was written without SDL lags. Win32 mouse handling was
removed. Boom colormaps are supported in OpenGL mode. New mus-to-mid
conversion code was added. This removes bugs and plays back a lot of
music more like vanilla Doom. PC speaker emulation was added. A wipe
screen effect in OpenGL was added.

Hence, you might want to think about prboom-plus.

Bug#439255: bug 439255: pangzero: Raises brightness to maximum

2008-01-23 Thread Jon Dowland
launching pangzero causes the brightness of the screen of
my laptop to be raised to maximum. This happens also when
 closing pangzero.

This happens to me with prboom. Both are using SDL, so
perhaps it's an SDL issue, or maybe a video driver issue.

What laptop / video chipset did you use, and what video
driver version?

In my case it's a thinkpad x40 / intel i810 video chipset
using the latest xserver-xorg-video-intel driver in sid at
the time of writing (2:2.2.0-1)

This report in Ubuntu's issue-tracker seems to suggest a
video driver issue:
https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/xserver-xorg-video-intel/+bug/139954/+viewstatus

Possible workarounds/some questions:

* is ibm-acpi loaded? (see http://bugs.debian.org/452894)

Bug#462238: FTBFS with GCC 4.3: missing #includes

2008-01-23 Thread Martin Michlmayr
Package: pingus
Version: 0.7.2-1
Severity: important
Usertags: ftbfs-gcc-4.3

Your package fails to build with GCC 4.3. Version 4.3 has not been
released yet but I'm building with a snapshot in order to find errors
and give people an advance warning. In GCC 4.3, the C++ header
dependencies have been cleaned up. The advantage of this is that
programs will compile faster. The downside is that you actually
need to directly #include everything you use (but you really should
do this anyway, otherwise your program won't work with any compiler
other than GCC). There's some more information about this at
http://gcc.gnu.org/gcc-4.3/porting_to.html

You can reproduce this problem with gcc-4.3 or gcc-snapshot from
unstable.

I made the above substitution when I realised that, with
current trunk and upstream, that glob matched all of the
files in the more explicit bash version, and nothing else. I
am not familiar enough with the package to know whether this
might not work for other upstream versions. If so, an
explicit list of files to remove may be necessary.

Bug#461659: warsow: New version of warsow possibly non-distributable.

2008-01-23 Thread Joe Smith

Andres Mejia [EMAIL PROTECTED] wrote in message
news:[EMAIL PROTECTED]
 Hello,

I'm sorry, I forgot to ask about other concerns that myself and
another member of the Debian Games team had.

You should have been more clear that you were concerned not about freeness,
but about the ability to distribute the data in non-free.

I'll repeat what Vincent (the other member) was concerned about.

On Jan 21, 2008 10:26 PM, Andres Mejia [EMAIL PROTECTED] wrote:
3. You may not copy, modify, publish, transmit, sell, participate
in the transfer or sale or reproduce, create Derivative Works from,
distribute, perform, display or in any way exploit any of the Material
released under this License unless expressly permitted by the Warsow
 Team.

4. You may freely distribute the Warsow archive/installer
unmodified on any media. You may re-compress using different archival
formats suitable for your OS (i.e. zip/tgz/rpm/deb/dmg), any changes
beyond that require explicit permission of the Chasseur de bots
 association.

This two points are contradictory: 3 says no one can distribute, 4
says it's fine to distribute if you don't touch anything. Moreover,
there are two different groups mentioned in here: the 'Chasseurs de
bots association' and the 'Warsow Team'. We'd better take this to
debian-legal. To me, it looks like a very badly-written license with
 ambiguous clauses.

I agree that it is a very poor licence. It is obviously not free.
As stated it is definately questionable.
They probably do intend for Debian to be able to continue packaging the data
in non-free,
hence the mention of the deb format, but in this case clarification is
definately desireable.

That was his concern. My concern was that this license stated Assets
that are property of Chasseur de bots, use the following Warsow
Content License. However, the last part of clause 3 mentions that
exceptions can be made by the Warsow Team. Would this be a problem
if we are to distribute warsow in Debian?

It is certainly odd, but I suspect that Warsow Team is the same thing as
the Chasseur de bots team (the development team for Warsow)
which I suspect is the primary (only?) subdivion of the Chasseur de bots
association. They are definately being quite loose with their terminology.

I would seek clarifiaction from the Association itself as to whether we may
contine to distribute the data files in non-free as we have done in the
past, with further clarification that the message is also the position of
the Warsow Team.

Based on the terms, clarifcation from both the Association itself and the
team that we may continue to package the files as we have should be
sufficent to allow the distribution of the packaged form of the new data
files.

Below is the previous question I asked earlier.

There's an issue with the new upstream version of warsow that I think
will make it undistributable, even in the non-free category of Debian.
I've attached the entire license file for the new version of warsow.

I want to know if it will still be possible to distribute the old
version of warsow. The old license states,

 Warsow license information:

The game engine is based on the QFusion engine and licensed under the GNU
General Public license. A copy of the GPL license should come with this
package, in file named gnu.txt, if not look at
 http://www.gnu.org/licenses/gpl.txt

Game data files are copyrighted by their respective authors. You may only
redistribute the game data in unmodified form unless you have written
 permission from the copyright owner.

Until clarification can be obtained, I would remain with the old version, as
that definately gves us permissions we need, and nothing has indicated that
they revoked this permission, only that the new versions come under a
different set of terms.

Please CC myself and [EMAIL PROTECTED] when replying to this email.

Done.

Hi,

your source package, or one or more of your binary packages do
declare a relation to ttf-bistream-vera. This font is going to
be removed from the archive in favour for ttf-dejavu.

Please adjust your packages if you make use of the fonts
directly, and remove *any* relation to ttf-bitstream-vera in your
next upload.

Regards,
Daniel

Rumors say that Ubuntu is using dash as /bin/sh on their buildds, so a patch
might be available. Check http://packages.qa.debian.org/neverball, or
directly on launchpad: https://launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/neverball.

A list of current common problems and possible solutions is available at

jugglemaster REMOVED from testing

2008-01-23 Thread Debian testing watch
FYI: The status of the jugglemaster source package
in Debian's testing distribution has changed.

  Previous version: 0.4-1
  Current version: (not in testing)
  Hint: http://ftp-master.debian.org/testing/hints/luk
# 20080121; done 20080123
Bug #462034: Should this package be removed?

The script that generates this mail tries to extract removal
reasons from comments in the britney hint files. Those comments
were not originally meant to be machine readable, so if the
reason for removing your package seems to be nonsense, it is
probably the reporting script that got confused. Please check the
actual hints file before you complain about meaningless removals.
