Your instincts are good. Installing the latest prboom seems to have no effect regarding this bug. However, creating emtpy file /etc/timidity/timidity.cfg fixes (or works around) it. Both prboom and prboom -nosfx work as expected. As for sound hardware, it's built into my motherboard. VIA
