Bug#448003: ignores preference to use xorg.conf keyboard layout; does not configure jp106 keyboard correctly
Package: gnome-control-center Version: 1:2.20.0.1-1 Severity: important --- Please enter the report below this line. --- Apologies in advance if I am reporting this against the wrong package - if so, please advise. Starting up today, I was greeted with a box telling me that my gnome keyboard settings and my X (xorg.conf) keyboard settings differ, and asking which I would like to use. I selected X, as that was working nicely before, however, that choice appears to have been disregarded. I then try to set up to use jp106 as my default through gnome-keyboard-properties, which has at least two problems 1) gnome seems to refuse this as default, and I can only achieve the jp106 layout by starting gnome with a US default layout, and then switching to jp106 2) once I get to jp106, my backslash/underscore key does not work correctly, nor are the arrow keys recognized. I would like to go back to the layout I have configured in xorg.conf ... how can I do it? Thanks in advance Tim ps. I guess this must have come about from upgrades I made yesterday or the day before (I am running unstable), but I cannot see the likely cause from aptitude.log --- System information. --- Architecture: i386 Kernel: Linux 2.6.22-2-686 Debian Release: lenny/sid 500 unstablewww.debian-multimedia.org 500 unstableftp.uk.debian.org --- Package information. --- Depends (Version) | Installed =-+-== libart-2.0-2 (= 2.3.18) | 2.3.19-3 libatk1.0-0 (= 1.20.0) | 1.20.0-1 libbonobo2-0 (= 2.15.0) | 2.20.0-1 libbonoboui2-0(= 2.15.1) | 2.20.0-1 libc6(= 2.6.1-1) | 2.6.1-6 libcairo2 (= 1.4.0) | 1.4.10-1 libdbus-1-3(= 1.1.1) | 1.1.1-3 libdbus-glib-1-2(= 0.74) | 0.74-1 libebook1.2-9 (= 1.12.0) | 1.12.1-1 libesd0 (= 0.2.35) | OR libesd-alsa0 (= 0.2.35) | 0.2.36-3 libfontconfig1 (= 2.4.0) | 2.4.2-1.4 libfreetype6 (= 2.3.5) | 2.3.5-1+b1 libgconf2-4 (= 2.13.5) | 2.20.0-1 libglade2-0 (= 1:2.6.1) | 1:2.6.2-1 libglib2.0-0 (= 2.14.0) | 2.14.2-1 libgnome-desktop-2(= 2.11.1) | 2.20.0-2 libgnome-menu2(= 2.15.4) | 2.20.0-2 libgnome-window-settings1 (= 1:2.17.5) | 1:2.20.0.1-1 libgnome2-0 (= 2.17.3) | 2.20.1.1-1 libgnomecanvas2-0 (= 2.11.1) | 2.20.1-1 libgnomekbd1 | 2.20.0-1 libgnomekbdui1| 2.20.0-1 libgnomeui-0 (= 2.17.1) | 2.20.1.1-1 libgnomevfs2-0 (= 1:2.17.90) | 1:2.20.0-3 libgstreamer-plugins-base0.10-0 (= 0.10.14) | 0.10.14-4 libgstreamer0.10-0 (= 0.10.14) | 0.10.14-2 libgtk2.0-0 (= 2.12.0) | 2.12.1-1 libhal1(= 0.5.9) | 0.5.10-1 libice6 (= 1:1.0.0) | 2:1.0.4-1 libmetacity0(= 1:2.19.5) | 1:2.20.0-1 libnautilus-extension1 (= 2.17.90) | 2.20.0-1 liborbit2 (= 1:2.14.1) | 1:2.14.7-0.1 libpanel-applet2-0(= 2.19.3) | 2.20.0.1-3 libpango1.0-0 (= 1.18.2) | 1.18.2-2 libpng12-0 (= 1.2.13-4) | 1.2.15~beta5-3 libpopt0(= 1.10) | 1.10-3 libslab0 | 0.9.8.svn.20070430-1.1 libsm6| 2:1.0.3-1+b1 libstartup-notification0 (= 0.8-1) | 0.9-1 libx11-6 | 2:1.0.3-7 libxcomposite1 (= 1:0.3-1) | 1:0.3.2-1+b1 libxcursor1( 1.1.2) | 1:1.1.9-1 libxdamage1(= 1:1.1) | 1:1.1.1-3 libxext6 | 1:1.0.3-2 libxfixes3 (= 1:4.0.1) | 1:4.0.3-2 libxft2( 2.1.1) | 2.1.12-2 libxi6| 2:1.1.3-1 libxinerama1 | 1:1.0.2-1 libxklavier11(= 3.3) | 3.3-1

Bug#343711: Remove --enable-explicit-deps=yes from gtk configure flags
According to upstream (see http://bugzilla.gnome.org/show_bug.cgi?id=352199) we can get rid of the problem not by messing around with Requires.private, but by removing the --enable-explicit-deps=yes from the configure flags that we give in the gtk packaging. Bug#448072: Video thumbnailing should not rely on a particular media player
Package: nautilus Version: 2.14.3-11+b1 Severity: wishlist Tags: patch In nautilus video thumbnails are only displayed if the user has totem installed. If for any reason this not the case (maybe he prefers another media player?), he may have not installed or uninstalled totem. Therefore video thumbnailing in nautilus should rather rely on a small library, eg. ffmpeg. This is what I did on my system. I wrote a small Python script in replacement of “totem-video-thumbnailer” and declared it as a new “gnome-video-thumbnailer” alternative. === code of “ffmpeg-video-thumbnailer” = #!/usr/bin/env python # # Ffmpeg video thumbnailer # generates a thumbnail from a video file # # requires ffmpeg, imagemagick and filmholes.png from totem # # Use: # ffmpeg-video-thumbnailer [-s geometry] input output # # geometry = thumbnail geometry, eg. 128 or 128x96 # input = video file name # output= thumbnail file name # # Author: JM. Philippe - http://philipjm.free.fr/blog/ # Public domain import sys, os, re, commands, urllib # the ffmpeg command to be executed (extracts 1st video image) FfmpegCmd = ffmpeg -i '%s' -vcodec png -vframes 1 -s %s -f rawvideo -y '%s' # the imagemagick command (composes images) MagickCmd = composite -compose atop -geometry %s %s %s %s # film holes to be overlaid (from totem install) FilmHoles = '/usr/share/totem/filmholes.png' HoleHeight = 35 # film holes image dimensions #HoleWidth = 9 ## ## def dims(FileName): gets video dimensions Result = commands.getoutput(ffmpeg -i '%s' % FileName) Orient = re.findall(r'(\d+)x(\d+)', Result) if len(Orient): return map(int, Orient[0]) else: return 0, 0 ## ## def film_holes(FileName, Height): adds film holes on the left side Start = 0 while Start Height: # repeat pattern vertically Position = '+%d+%d' % (0, Start) commands.getoutput(MagickCmd % (Position, FilmHoles, FileName, FileName)) Start += HoleHeight ## # get parameters if sys.argv[1] == -s: ThumbSize, Input, Output = sys.argv[2:5] else: ThumbSize = 128 Input, Output = sys.argv[1:3] ## # URL's to pathnames Input = urllib.url2pathname(Input.replace('file://', '')) Output = urllib.url2pathname(Output.replace('file://', '')) ## # thumbnail size if 'x' not in ThumbSize: ImgWidth, ImgHeight = dims(Input) ThumbWidth = int(ThumbSize) if ImgWidth = ImgHeight: ThumbHeight = ThumbWidth * ImgHeight / ImgWidth else: ThumbHeight = ThumbWidth ThumbWidth = ThumbHeight * ImgWidth / ImgHeight ThumbSize = '%dx%d' % (ThumbWidth, ThumbHeight) ## # make thumbnail Result = commands.getoutput(FfmpegCmd % (Input, ThumbSize, Output)) film_holes(Output, ThumbHeight) commands.getoutput(mogrify -flop + Output) # flip left to right film_holes(Output, ThumbHeight) commands.getoutput(mogrify -flop + Output) === end of script Caveats: * doesn't understand gnome URI's (video files are assumed to be local) * uses the film hole image of totem, “/usr/share/totem/filmholes.png” * uses ImageMagick to overlay the film hole image over the thumbnail (should use a much smaller library) So I don't think my script is sufficient but I made it to check that there was another way to do this. Bug#448095: gdm doesn't save locale settings
Package: gdm Version: 2.20.0-2 Severity: normal Hi, this is a fresh amd64 install. I've installed with a lenny netinst, then full-upgraded to sid, then only installed gdm. As an user, when I choose a locale, then login, it asks me if I want to set this locale as the default one, but this choice isn't remembered for the next time. I don't know if it's reproducible (I have another box, amd64/sid too, wich doesn't have the problem, but it's not freshly installed, and I don't know where are the config files (user part) for gdm.
