Even in this very preliminary stage it should already be better than
the other unofficial 3.4.x package in existence.

I'd also like to help with packaging Eclipse for Debian. I'm not a
professional programmer, and have dealt mostly with C/C++ and Perl. I
have no experience in packaging and Java.
Bug 308652 [1] looks reasonably simple for me to work on. At the
moment, I have eclipse.menu and
I 'm starting to hate gmail ;-)
