Suhas,

1. Debian java team does not maintain the jftp application. It just
packages the application.
2. It is not very clear from your mail what report are you trying to
create. I hope this is not the usual 'copy code from somewhere and
pretend it is yours' kind of report many engineering students create.
3. A simple google search would have given you the link to the
applications website.

Bug#528070: eclipse: Zenity doesn't be imposed as a dependence

2009-05-10 Thread Cédric LEULLIER
Package: eclipse
Version: 3.2.2-6.1
Severity: minor

The eclipse package and the eclipse-platform package impose zenity (Gnome
environment) as a dependence.
But eclipse uses Java and doesn't need zenity to work.

Zenity is only used in scripts like /usr/bin/eclipse :
[...]
if [ -x /usr/bin/zenity ]; then
DIALOG=/usr/bin/zenity
DIALOGW=$DIALOG --warning
elif [ -x /usr/bin/kdialog ]; then
DIALOG=/usr/bin/kdialog
DIALOGW=$DIALOG --warningyesno
elif [ -x /usr/bin/xdialog ]; then
DIALOG=/usr/bin/xdialog
DIALOGW=$DIALOG --warning
else
DIALOG=echo
DIALOGW=$DIALOG
fi
[...]

As we can see in this exemple, it isn't the only choice to display dialog boxes.

So if you don't use the Gnome environment, zenity forces you to install many
gnome libraries.
It's very unpleasant.

Please, is it possible to give the choice to install kdialog or xdialog instead
of zenity ?

Thanks in advance.

2009-05-10 Thread Barry deFreese

Severity: important

Hi,

jikes is orphaned, unmaintained, and buggy and therefore we are trying
to remove it from the archive. xerces-j currently
build-depends on jikes. Could you please try to build with one of the
other java compilers and remove the jikes build-depends? I've tried it
with openjdk-6-jdk and it seems to work fairly well but does still have
some issues.

Debian bug #517163 and #521306 are about tomcat6 failing to start with
libtcnative-1 installed and ipv6 enabled, with the following error:

Socket bind failed: [22] Invalid argument

Those bugs were fixed on the tomcat-native side by bumping to the 1.1.16
release. However, according to the upstream bug[1] and my testing, this
also requires a patch to be applied to tomcat6 itself.

[1] https://issues.apache.org/bugzilla/show_bug.cgi?id=43327

Ubuntu applied the attached patch to fix this, please consider including
it in a future release. The patch was taken from upstream SVN and will
be part of 6.0.19 one day.

Thanks !

Bug#528081: xerces-j: Please remove build-dep on jikes

2009-05-10 Thread Eric Lavarde

Hi,

sounds to me that the best resolution would be to remove xerces-j as
well: no software depends on it (says 'apt-cache showpkg'), and it's
been superseded by xerces2 since ages (also upstream).

I'm no DD but let me know if I can help.

Eric

2009-05-10 Thread Peter Collingbourne
Package: tomcat6-examples
Version: 6.0.18-3

This package includes the following files:

/usr/share/tomcat6-examples/examples/WEB-INF/lib/standard.jar

which correspond to the following files in the source tarball:

webapps/examples/WEB-INF/lib/standard.jar

The source package does not include their source code. This goes
against the DFSG requirement that the program must include source
code therefore the package at present should not be in main.
This jar file does not have a package in the Debian archive; for
this package to remain in main the relevant source code should be
found and packaged for Debian and the new packages should be added
to Depends and/or Build-Depends-Indep. Once this process is complete
the package's source tarball should be repackaged not to include the
above listed jar files.
