I can't get the plugin to work in iceweasel at all. No single applet
I've tried work. I just get a pop-up window asking me to trust the
applet, and after clicking on Trust Applet, a grey box is shown
where the applet should appear.

icedtea-gcjwebplugin does not work at all with a proxy. Probably the
same error as bug 459558, on gcjwebplugin, and bug 459554, on
java-gcj-compat-plugin .
Still looking for a amd64 java-plugin for firefox...
