Bug#613889: ant dies with bus error in kfreebsd-amd64 virtual machine

2011-02-17 Thread Jan Dittberner
Subject: ant dies with bus error in kfreebsd-amd64 virtual machine
Package: ant
Severity: important

*** Please type your report below this line ***

when trying to build libjna-java on a kfreebsd-amd64 vm using pbuilder ant dies
with bus error.

I tried to narrow the problem and it occurs when running ant without any
parameters too. Running ant in gdb I got the following backtrace:

libjna-java-3.2.7# gdb /usr/lib/jvm/java-gcj/bin/java

Unknown signal looks like gdb is not knowing enough about kfreebsd but the rest
of the trace seems to indicate a problem in libgij in combination with ant.

Unblock request for antlr-2.7.7-10

2009-01-17 Thread Jan Dittberner
Hello release team,

during the last view days some folks worked on the antlr package. A new version
2.7.7-10 of the package has been accepted yesterday. The version in testing is
2.7.7-6 and has 2 RC bugs that get fixed in 2.7.7-10.

Unfortunatelly the debdiff (attached) is quite big as you can see in the
diffstat output at the end of this mail. Most of the changes stem from removing
the antlr/debian directory though.

The changelog between 2.7.7-6 and 2.7.7-10 mentions the following activities:

antlr (2.7.7-10) unstable; urgency=low

  [ Torsten Werner ]
  * Add myself to Uploaders.
  * Convert changes to Charscanner.hpp to a patch file and improve this patch
for gcc 4.4 thanks to Martin Michlmayr. (Closes: #505366)

  [ Jan Dittberner ]
  * Fix watch file. (Closes: #511862)
  * Create a separate package python-antlr. (Closes: #511306)
  * Add missing build-dependency java-gcj-compat-dev. (Closes: #511849)

  [ Asheesh Laroia ]
  * Fixed cantlr package to depend on libantlr-java-gcj rather than
nonexistent antlr-gcj (finishing migration started in 2.7.7-8).
(Closes: #504050)

 -- Torsten Werner twer...@debian.org  Thu, 15 Jan 2009 20:37:44 +0100

antlr (2.7.7-9) unstable; urgency=low

  * libantlr-java{,-gcj}: Fix typos in dependencies.

 -- Matthias Klose d...@debian.org  Tue, 21 Oct 2008 01:08:32 +0200

antlr (2.7.7-8) unstable; urgency=low

  * Build a libantlr-java package, without dependency on a java runtime.
Needed to bootstrap gcj without having a java runtime installed.
  * Rename antlr-gcj to libantlr-java-gcj.
  * Explicitely call javac with -source 1.4.

 -- Matthias Klose d...@debian.org  Mon, 20 Oct 2008 08:01:58 +0200

antlr (2.7.7-7) unstable; urgency=low

  [Michael Koch]
  * Updated watch file to match only Antlr v2.

  [Matthias Klose]
  * antlr: Depend on default-jre-headless.
  * Don't directly build-depend on gcj.
  * Build a antlr-gcj package, replace cantlr with a shell script to use it.

 -- Matthias Klose d...@debian.org  Sun, 12 Oct 2008 21:47:32 +0200

Version 2.7.7-10 introduces a new binary package python-antlr that has the
benefit of not pulling in unnecessary java dependencies for Python code that
needs antlr.py. As far as I can see there is no reverse dependency to antlr in
testing currently so this split will not harm existing packages in testing.

There is one package python-pyexcelerator which has an included antlr.py but
could use antlr.py in the new python-antlr binary package.

I think that 2.7.7-10 is a huge step forward for antlr package's overall
quality and I ask you whether it could be unblocked.

Regards
Jan Dittberner

python-antlr to avoid unnecessary Java dependencies for reverse dependencies
only requiring the Python implementation of antlr.

antlr package

2009-01-13 Thread Jan Dittberner

Hello,

recently I built a new package (xlwt) depending on a file in antlr (2.x
series). When I started work on xlwt one of the Python module team members
mentioned in IRC that antlr is not in a good shape too. I looked at antlr
during the last days and I have the feeling that the package could really need
some care.

I'm writing to all of you because I want to avoid starting work that may
already be in progress. The package page at [1] tells me that there is an
uploaded version by Asheesh Laroia at the mentors.debian.net repository [2]. I
looked at it and saw that the package fixes the RC bug but doesn't improve it
any further.

[1] http://packages.qa.debian.org/a/antlr.html
[2]
http://mentors.debian.net/cgi-bin/sponsor-pkglist?action=details;package=antlr

I'd like to help with the package with reviewing patches fixing lintian stuff
and looking at the BTS (and hopefully find solutions for bugs). I'm in NM but
maintain some other packages [3] for a while so I have some experience with
packaging. Maybe my Java knowledge will be of help too (antlr spits a lot of
deprecation warnings that should IMHO be reported/fixed in antlr upstream).

[3] http://qa.debian.org/developer.php?login=...@dittberner.info

Should I start working on the package? I could use svn if anybody could add me
to the pkg-java team on alioth (my alioth account is jandd-guest). Before
starting new work I think the diff between svn trunk and the current uploaded
version of antlr has to be committed to svn though.

I'm CCing antlr Uploaders and Matthias Klose who uploaded the latest antlr
version because I don't know wheter you're members of the team's list.

Bug#511306: separate python module antlr.py to avoid unnecessary dependencies

2009-01-09 Thread Jan Dittberner
-BEGIN PGP SIGNED MESSAGE-
Hash: SHA1

Package: antlr
Severity: wishlist

It would be nice to have the antlr.py module in a separate package (i.e.
python-antlr). Its code has no relations to the Java antlr code and is useful
for other Python code. At the moment adding antlr as dependency for a Python
package (i.e. xlwt) pulls in lots of Java dependencies that are not necessary
for the Python code.

I'll try to prepare a patch against antlr's SVN.
