Sorry about that :)

I did not blindly ping the bug.

Since its being a while without response and we are getting closer to

something to the release team

What do you think about that?

2012-11-13 Thread Thomas Koch

 Hi!

I know, this should normally be filed as a bug, but would result in
some kind of mass bug filing which I think can be avoided.

 Please take a look at

 http://duck.debian.net/index.php?maintainer=pkg-java-maintain...@lists.alio
 th.debian.org

There are currently ~100 packages with broken ord wrong Homepage
entries - most of them seem to got currupted on some kind of server
 restructuring, eg.

 https://tablelayout.dev.java.net/ (whic his broken) vs.
http://java.net/projects/TableLayout (which works) - the same for e.g
 SwingX.

If it's better to file bugs against the packages to not break to usual
workflow i'll glady do, but I think it might be easyier/less fuzz this
 way.

Forward to Debian-Java

Hi Simon,

I'd prefer a minor bug against each package. The next time somebody updates
the package, he/she will also scan the bugs list and not forget to update the
homepage field.

I am therefore pushing the severity here and if people agree, I'll
file a freeze exception once the package hits unstable.

The security issues identified have already been backported to the
version in testing - please see the latest changelog entries.

I don't think an upgrade is feasible now as the LTS changelog only
documents the fixes made in the LTS releases - but the first version
of a LTS release also includes every change and fix between the last
and current LTS in trunk as well.

The delta as a result is huge.

 Hey all,

be 2.0.1. Are there any plans regarding an update?

 Hello Emil,

Where are you finding a package for 2.0.1? When I look at the PTS for
 libgdata-java, I only see 1.30.0 [1].

Right, libgdata-java 1.30.0 actually contains what Google otherwise
distribute as Google Contacts 2.0.1. In other words, if I am not
mistaken, we would need libgdata-java to be 1.43.0 which contains Google
Contacts 3.0.0.

Also, the package only appears in
lenny and squeeze, having been removed from unstable and testing earlier
 this year.

Does this mean there's no chance of it getting back?

Assuming we're talking about the same library, you could file a RFP bug
 for the package.

OK done. Haven't had the number yet though.

Thanks,
Emil

Bug#635964: pdfsam Re: Bug#635964: New version still not available

2012-09-25 Thread Steffen Möller
Hi Tom,

1.1.4 is in the archive, so at least the pre-2.0 series of pdfsam seems
covered. I recall to have looked at the never version a while back. It has a
series of additional build dependencies. No idea how far the packaging of those
has progressed in the meantime. It was not trivial, so much I recall.

I am afraid that my hunch is that there are some extra hands needed. Could you
possibly help out? Would you have some peers with whom to save the work,
possibly?

Many greetings

Steffen

I've just checked and the new version of of pdfsam is still not available
though it contains significant enhancements. Version 1.1.4 has been
released in 2009, version 2.2.1 in 2010 and the package has still not been
 updated.

Re: make-jpkg fails

2012-08-16 Thread echo083

Hello,

I'm following this guide http://wiki.debian.org/JavaPackage
I'm using debian squeeze

I have no problem with :
/apt-get install java-package/

But when executing one of this command with the archives I retrieved
on the oracle website :

/make-jpkg jre-7u6-linux-i586.tar.gz
make-jpkg jdk-7u6-linux-i586.tar.gz
make-jpkg jre-6u34-linux-i586.bin
make-jpkg jdk-6u34-linux-i586.bin/

I have tons of messages like this :
/dpkg-shlibdeps : warning: Can't extract name and version from library
name .../

And finally the process always stop with this error :
/Undefined subroutine main::get_buildoption called at
/usr/bin/dh_builddeb line 69./

Any idea of what I am missing ? /make-jpkg/ was written in perl,
should I install any specific perl module ?

Adam
For information the error was generated because I had an outdated
version of debhelper.

Sorry for the annoyance.

Re: Is sun-java6 6.26-0squeeze1 vulnerable to CVE-2012-1723?

2012-08-14 Thread Kevin

It is quite possible that sun-java6 is vulnerable to that CVE; I haven't
checked. The problem is that we cannot do anything about it as we do
not have permission to distribute updates for sun-java6[1]...

Thanks for the explanation. I understand this package has been dropped
from testing and unstable. Is there a way other than the Mozilla blocklist
to inform Squeeze users that they are running an insecure package? Since
I'm running stable and this package is still present in the repository,
I assumed it was still receiving security updates.

Forgive me if this is a naive question, but should the package be removed
from stable so users are not unwittingly given a false sense of security?

Thanks,
Kevin

See attached patch for a change to README.Debian. I've tested it and

Please apply it to the repository; I'm not sure that a separate upload to

 Hi,

please install the maven artifacts to /usr/share/maven-repo.

The plan is to get the upload I've prepared into Wheezy, since it
provides transitional packages to ease the move to the new package
names. To maximise the chance it'll be accepted I'd rather not include
any other changes for now. After Wheezy is released then there's also a
new upstream minor version to update to, since it fixes some performance
 issues too.

Uploaded.

http://packages.qa.debian.org/e/eclipse.html.

Additionally, you should get familiar with the packaging. You can find
the sources at git://git.debian.org/git/pkg-java/eclipse.git.

 Hello,

Could you consider to package a more recent version of Jenkins
? We are currently shipping 1.447 and upstream is 1.472
Actually 1.447.x is upstream LTS chanel for stable release. Maybe
we should stick with it during Wheezy release cycle ?

The policy I have taken with this package is to track the LTS release
rather than the main TRUNK release from upstream - its generally more
stable and has an upstream commitment for backporting of
critical/security fixes.

So I think sticking with 1.447.2 (latest LTS) is the correct thing
todo for wheezy.

Hello Java team,

 Reject Reasons:
 'dpkg-source -x' failed for trove3_3.0.2-1.dsc. (Command '('dpkg-source',
 '--no-copy', '--no-check', '-q', '-x', 'trove3_3.0.2-1.dsc',
 '/srv/ftp-master.debian.org/tmp/tmpEWgHjK/root')' returned non-zero exit
 status 9)

Any idea what might be causing this? The same command in the upload
folder worked.

The trove3 packages are in SVN, forked from the existing trove folder.
There are two more things I want to check before trying another
upload. But as it might fail again as above - any idea what might be
wrong?

(TODO: 1. make sure the installed .jar file name agrees with the
commonly used upstream file name. 2. Narrow down the watch file of
trove and trove3 to only look for version 2 and version 3. 3. Contact
maintainers of packages with build-dep but not runtime dependencies on
trove2 whether that is intentional or some artifact.)

Erich

Re: libhibernate-validator-java debdiff

2012-05-29 Thread Brian Thomason
It is Californian weather these days over Germany. And we have a holiday on
Monday, which basically brings the country to a
standstill. I am still without my key, so I cannot do a team upload and
thought about helping just by putting Brian's
changes into the pkg-java repository ... paired with the suggestion for
Brian not to be shy and commit his stuff.

This wasn't a case of being shy - I have submitted to the svn pkg-java
repo but am new to git, and when I tried to access it, it timed out on
me :-(

It sounds a bit like Onkar (CCed) was addressing a bit of the same that Brian
addressed. So, let us hope for Torsten not to have
the typical vacation, @Brian: please consider updating your patch with the
hindsight of the Ubuntu patch, so we can possibly
coordinate our eyeballs' attention a bit in future releases, and just some
 friendly hello to everyone.

I'll add the flag and resend.

Thanks!

Hi,

it was quite useful that you uploaded to your PPA, as I first imported Onkar's
changes from 4.0.2.GA-6ubuntu1, and then your changes from the PPA. I have
pushed them to the Git repository on Alioth. Before I upload, I have three
questions:

 - Can you provide a short description for
debian/patches/jaxb-binding-fixes.patch
 - Lintian reports : W: libhibernate-validator-java: missing-classpath
libhibernate3-java, libjtype-java, libgeronimo-validation-1.0-spec-java.
I there somegthing to correct ?
 - No otherwise objections for the uplaod ?

I started learning the Java ecosystem myself by upgrading Solr and packaging
Hadoop. However learning Debian packaging and then Java packaging isn't done
in a couple of hours. On the other hand you'll really learn a lot about the
system that you're using.

I don't know what your company is doing but you should think twice before
asking your boss for a favour and then feeling bad about misusing company
time. I've been there...

But on the other hand it might be an asset for your company to have somebody
that knows about Debian packaging and about Java.

this and get responses from pkg-java. Since February (where there would still
have been plenty of time to fix packages up if possible) NO answer from
 pkg-java.
In case of API incompatibility, according to Policy, package should be
named hsqldb2-xxx in this case.

Olivier

And now the RT team (understandably) thinks it's too late so we live
2.5 years more with a grossly obsolete libhsqldb-java in Debian...

It's advisable to put this kind of information directly in the

If my understanding of the java policy is correct, there should be a
/usr/share/java/velocity.jar file or symlink, which went missing at
some point. - Ok, 1.7-1 still has it, 1.7-2 doesn't (and
libjpfcodegen-java builds against 1.7-1 but not against -2 and -3).

Please add it back :)

and your package went on our radar. You may have uploaded recently but,
unfortunately for you, you then got *another* l10n bug report.

So, sorry for this, but the radar beeped at your package and here am I
 with an NMU intent...:-)

I have the intention, as part of a more general action of the Debian
i18n Task Force to build and possibly upload a non-maintainer upload
for jspwiki in order to fix this as well as all pending translations
 for the debconf templates.

Of course, an upload made by you would even be better...:-)

Such changes are always harmless, which explains why I safely consider
building NMUs for such issues even though they're obviously non critical.

The schedule for the NMU (in case it happens, that is if you agree with it
or if I don't receive any answer in 2 days) is roughly the following:

Tuesday, March 13, 2012 : send this notice
  Saturday, March 17, 2012 : post a NMU announcement to debian-i18n with
 you
  (maintainer) CC'ed
this can happen earlier if the maintainer agrees
In such case, the deadlines below will also
  happen earlier
Sunday, March 25, 2012 : (midnight) deadline for receiving translation
 updates
Monday, March 26, 2012 : build the package and upload it to
 DELAYED/7-day
send the NMU patch to the BTS
Monday, April 02, 2012 : NMU reaches incoming

If you intent to upload yourself, please notify me so that I interrupt
the process on my side. Please also don't upload without a discussion
with me. Some translators might send a few new translations and I can handle
a round of translation updates for you. Really, don't upload silently...:-)

In case I upload an NMU, I will subscribe to the Package Tracking System for
jspwiki and follow its life for 60 days after my NMU in order to fix
any issue potentially introduced by my upload.

Let me know, as soon as possible, if you have any kind of objection to this
 process.

If you'd rather do the fix yourself, I will of course leave the package
alone. Same if you have reasons not to do the update now.

Re: Bug#663913: libxerces2-java: installs broken symlink (/usr/share/java/xmlParserAPIs.jar)

2012-03-16 Thread tony mancill
Hi Niels,

Thanks for filing the bug. The versioned dependency on
libxml-commons-external-java (= 1.4.01-2) entailed updating those
links, which has been fixed in SVN. I wanted to check with the team to
see if anyone objected to an upload.

Thanks,
tony

Looks like the xmlParserAPIs.jar link needs to be updated.

Re: update for sun-java package

 Hello Maintainers:

Hi,

 My name's Willian and I'm a Linux Mint 12 user (wheezy/sid in

I was checking the plugins I'm using in Firefox with Plugin Check page (
http://www.mozilla.org/en-US/plugincheck/) and it reported me that my Java
plugin is outdated. Also, they told me there are some security risk running
this outdated version. The version it reported me was 1.6.0_26, which is
the same I'm using over here. I was reading the changelog from version from
1.6.0_27 to 1.6.0_31 and there are some security vulnerabilities which were
fixed, but we are missing them because the official debian package is not
 updated. Those security are below:

I am a bit pedantic here, but there never was an official Debian
package for sun-java (it was non-free and therefore not a part of
Debian).

So I would like to know if you guys could update it. I know how to manually
update it, but i think it's important to update the debian package as well
because it would update all Debian users and alike.

 Thanks,

 Willian.

Unfortunately we cannot. Oracle no longer provides sun-java (or
oracle-java) under a license we can use for distributing the non-free
Java[1].
We can offer you is openjdk-6 or openjdk-7; I know there have been
(and probably still are) cases were openjdk did not work as well as
sun-java. If you experience such with openjdk, I would highly recommend
you report those so those issues can be fixed.
If openjdk is simply not a feasible alternative, I believe that the
package java-package (in sid/Wheezy) can be used to construct a deb
from the manual downloaded sun-java. It has the advantage that dpkg/apt
is aware of your local Java installation and will use that if possible.
