As of now it looks like this DFSG violation in a package marked DFSG
is going unfixed and ignored when some patches have been proposed. Any
news on this? Is the only issue that somebody needs to buckle down and
actually submit the patch? Because it's a major issue putting
non-free software in the

gNewSense appears to have fixed this bug:

gNewSense is Debian-based; perhaps the patch can be used for Debian's
package?
they've just removed that file from the package and that's certainly step 1 of
fixing this problem
