Netbeans 7.4 should hopefully be released in a week or so (based on
previous release cycles) and I've managed to get rc1 building OK.
There's a few other updates still required (for which I've got very
rough packaging in place locally) - I've been tracking these on

I think Shawn means, that if you orphan it, it will then get in the
list http://www.debian.org/devel/wnpp/work_needing so someone else can
pick it up and package it.
I am not sure how the process goes though.

Are you asking for the package to be orphaned so you can prepare an
upload, or for some other reason? netbeans is currently a
team-maintained package, by the Java Team, so you should feel free to
work
