I was not following this situation with upstream -- is there any chance for
upstream to eventually release CSS-only version?
There might be some update in the corresponding links that you can find in
#790768.

I'd appreciate if you could file RM bug and CC me through X-Debbugs-CC.

Thank you.

The point of packages like this is to make gtk based applications look
better when used in a Plasma environment.

Consider the idea of an installation that includes no gtk applications to
start with. In such an installation as this, the package has no immediate
use, so not having a gtk depends does no harm and keeps gtk off a system
 where it's really not needed.

Then later, when a gtk using application is installed, and gtk is pulled
onto the system because of it, it will automatically look nice because the
 oxygen theme was already there.

I see... I do not like the idea of breaking valid package dependency.
Oxygen-gtk3 is actually uses symbols from libgtk and it feels wrong to remove
valid dependency for no good reason. Besides there may be situations when GTK
application is not installed using package management system (e.g. from
sources to /usr/local) in which case it won't be useful to have broken
relationships between packages. When it is ever useful?

I am not convinced and I think little gain is not worth introducing RC-
critical bug (missing dependency).

Would be hard the breakage happened awhile ago, I have no idea where to
start. I think it may have changed with an update to libgtk-3-0 but I can't
 be sure.

KDE GTK3 themes always break by the upgrade of libgtk-3-0 -- almost every new
upstream release of libgtk manages to wreck gtk3-engines in one way or
another. Read gory details in the following page:

  https://igurublog.wordpress.com/2012/11/05/gnome-et-al-rotting-in-threes/

I also took the step of reinstalling every package on my system that was
already installed and had the substring gtk in it. This had no effect on
 my problem.

I see... Unfortunately at the moment I'm clueless...

[Pkg-kde-extras] Bug#704883: [gtk2-engines-oxygen] KDE: emacs hangs on git repositories (vc-git)

2013-04-07 Thread Dmitry Smirnov
Package: gtk2-engines-oxygen
Version: 1.2.4-1
Severity: normal

In KDE if oxygen-gtk chosen as GTK2 Theme in
systemsettings -- Gtk Configuration -- GTK themes
(with kde-config-gtk-style=3:2.1.1-1 installed) then `emacs` hangs on
opening any file under git repository. I've noticed that on emacs23 or
emacs24 (with git and git-core packages).

To reproduce I start `emacs` from CWD (current working directory) in git
repository tree with file name as command line argument: `emacs` just opens
blank window with Loading vc-git...done in status line and hangs (i.e. don't
respond to clicks or key presses).

I tried upstream release gtk2-engines-oxygen_1.3.2.1 but it does not fix the
problem.

Regards,
 Dmitry.
