The problem is that h-w diverts gcc and friends. Whick makes it annoying
to build stuff that is not to be hardened.

So, I added a patch to let the Makefile obey standard variables.
Therefore, we don't need patch 03 (CFLAGS already includes -O2), 04
(use gcc instead of ld to link), 06 (not sure why it was necessary,

I pulled and built it. Looks OK, except that the --as-needed flag
will not be used unless you export the LDFLAGS. I think it is not
necessary since caps links only against libc and libstdc++.

build with latest waf-light 1.8.8

I personally would upload it with working waf-light 1.6.11 and try to solve
