Yes - welcome to the team.

I have added your packages to the Multimedia Blends page, and they
should eventually appear here:
http://blends.debian.org/multimedia/tasks/drums

Your ITP bug for dgedit did not really contain any information about the
package (other than it was needed for drumgizmo to be in main). So I
grabbed some words about the package from the upstream website. Feel
free to use & improve on these words for your real debian/control
package description.

Regards,

Ross

I'm a Spanish guy whose background is Computer Science Engineering, and
I'm interested in digital audio processing (apart from FOSS :). I have
used Ardour and audio plugins briefly a couple of times in the past, and
I (somewhat :) play drums and guitar.

I intend to maintain at least the drumgizmo package[1][2],

I have already subscribed to pkg-multimedia-maintainers and

introduction e-mail dvdauthor/ogmtools

2012-10-18 Thread Marc Leeman
Hi, this is my introduction e-mail.

I've contributing to Debian since for over 10 years (it started out
with an ITP for transgaming WineX that got squashed by the company) ,
but never actually got round to go for the full debian maintainership.
This puts me in a bit of a pickle since I always need someone to
upload the packages for me. In the past this used to be Luigi or
Christian.

The packages I maintain are not high profile (e.g. dvdauthor,
ogmtools); but serve an audience.

My background ranges from embedded to streaming video (GStreamer,
mainly contributing support for the not so nice hardware encoders);

Euhm, yes :-)

agree to review other's work (patches and packages).

This is one of the reasons I am joining this community instead of
asking Christian Marillat to upload my packages: a strong believer of
peer review; one should walk the talk; more review can only result in
a better quality of the packages. Someone suggested this to me in a

I'm Cyril Lavier, a 25 years old system administrator from France.

I would like to join the team to co-maintain the audacious and
audacious-plugins packages as Benjamin Drung proposed me on the bug
#639374.

I have been working on Debian/Ubuntu packages since 2006, becoming
Ubuntu Member in 2007.

My involvement in the Debian project is more recent, as I started
backporting packages at mid-2011 (nginx and audacious). And now, I help
Kartik Mistry maintaining nginx packages.

I'm familiar with the BTS, I would be pleased to contribute to this
project and help on packages/issues.

Looking forward to work with you.

I have an alioth account micove-guest and already subscribed to both
mailing list as instructed in the
http://wiki.debian.org/DebianMultimedia/Join page. I also have
experience using debhelper/quilt and always build on a clean chroot
using pbuilder. I also have read the debian policy / debian's new
maintainers guide / debian's developer reference / DEP-3 guidelines /
DEP-5 guidelines / etc. I don't have much experience using git besides
downloading from projects using clone/checkout/pull but I will read
http://wiki.debian.org/PackagingWithGit and other sources to get a
better hang on it.

Look forward to your guidance and assistance.

I would like to build on previous packaging
effort for mma.

Clearly, mma couldn't have been packaged without
a changelog. Do you know where to find it?

I would hope there is another location for these files
than the package itself. Mma's package control.tar.gz only contains

control

mmadebian

For example, a different package I maintain has these
files in the debian/ directory.

changelog
compat
control
copyright
files
patches

So my question is where can I find the
original files used to create this debian package?

Thanks for your help.

Sounds like you are confusing upstream and Debian parts: Even if
upstream do ship a debian/ subdir, we should care for that ourselves,
and will ship our debian/ part as a separate file when redistributing
sources for our packaging - either as a diff or (with new dkpg-source
format 3.0 (quilt)) as a tarball.

As for your underlying question - how to start working on this package,
based on existing official packaging efforts, here's a smart oneliner I
just discovered to day, which generates a new Git repository from all
officially archived prior releases of a package (i.e. relevant when the
package was not previously maintained in a VCS):

  git-import-dscs --debsnap --pristine-tar --sign-tags mma

Hope that helps,

No, the above list of files is from a representative package's

I wouldn't say that. There are of course more ways to be active in the

About your packages, it seems that nobody in this team has expressed

Excellent, you are on the right track! :-)

I packaged different things, not only multimedia. But I think, the
most help I can provide is in that section. I am really new to the
community stuff. I still have to learn, how to use all the things.

Sure, and working in a team is a very efficient way to learn!

BTW, packaging new stuff is not the only way to contribute. You could
also take a look at existing packages of our team and post patches to
this list! If they are good and can be integrated, we will make sure
that we retain your full attribution.

 Where can I upload?

Either you have some private webspace somewhere, or you can upload to
mentors.debian.net and tell us the download url here! Or technically,
you could also use the service http://revu.tauware.de, although is
rather targeted for ubuntu.

Espc. for new packagers, I've made the experimence that getting the
package in shape before uploading it to git.debian.org is more efficient
than ironing out all problems via git.

Introduction

2010-08-16 Thread Thomas Maass
Hi!
My name is Thomas Maass from Germany.
I am working with Debian several years.
I have started with SuSe 8.0, and came
to Debian with Woody. Since then I stayed
on Debian. Now I want to help.
I'd like to join the Debian multimedia team.
I have created an alioth account and subscribed
to the mailing lists.
I have build several packages for private use,
and I want to give my work to the Debian project.
The first package I'd like to upload is called
clipgrab. It is a GUI application written in QT
to download from several videoportals like Youtube,
MyVideo, Sevenload etc. You can also directly convert
into several videoformats.
I hope, you add me to your group!

Thank you!

Thomas

Just click apply to this team on
https://launchpad.net/~pkg-multimedia-maintainers

It is useful in a way. It gives us one stop overview of all our
packages in Ubuntu Debian:

https://launchpad.net/~pkg-multimedia-maintainers/+related-software

This way it's easier (at least for me) to track all bugs which affect
our packages and whether or not there are some ubuntu delta on them.

Introduction and Team Membership Request

2010-06-15 Thread ScottALavender

Hello All,

I would like to introduce myself. My name is Scott Lavender and I am the
current Ubuntu Studio project lead and I am requesting to join the Debian
Multimedia Team.

I have:
* created an Alioth account
* subscribed to pkg-multimedia-maintainers mailing list
* subscribed to pkg-multimedia-commits
* familiar with handling bugs in Debian
* agree to review other's work (patches and packages)

Recently I have worked with quadrispro and have worked with Ardian Knoth
and Jonas Smedegaard in the past. I look forward to continuing work towards
making Debian a good platform for audio and multimedia work.

Regards,
ScottL

 Hi everyone,

I'm the Debian and Ubuntu package maintainer for LiVES (source package
name: lives), a very popular video editing suite, and am thinking
about joining the pkg-multimedia-maintainers team (if you'll have
 me!).

I've just added you to the alioth team, you should now have write access
to our packaging branches. Welcome to the team!

At the moment I don't use git for a VCS, but I'm planning to start
using it for the next version. At
 http://wiki.debian.org/DebianMultimedia/DevelopPackaging it says quilt
needs to be used for patch management, however at the moment I
currently use dpatch. Is this okay, or will I need to change to quilt?

On our last meeting we agreed that since we are rather short on
uploaders, we require every package to have a primary uploader and
that he may agree to use another packaging system or even some other
packaging helper than debhelper. However, most current uploaders prefer
debhelper and quilt, so that's why that's still recommended in our wiki
pages.

I've taken a brief look at lives, and while I haven't used it yet, it
indeed looks very promising. I'll consider putting me in the Uploaders
field.

If my membership is accepted, I'll change the maintainer field to
 Debian Multimedia Maintainers
 pkg-multimedia-maintainers@lists.alioth.debian.org. The only patch
in LiVES at the moment does not currently have a DEP-3 compliant
header, but I'll fix that for the next version.

excellent!

I've joined both the pkg-multimedia-maintainers and
pkg-multimedia-commits mailing lists, and are pretty familiar with
managing bugs in Debian (I haven't done that much of it, but for some
examples look at the closed bugs for lives). I also agree to review
other's work. I have an alioth account - username is hrickards-guest.

excellent as well!
