After some more work this frame appears to be working.
To build on Debian I did the following:
apt-get source libgphoto2
and downloaded libgphoto2
Package: libgphoto2
Version: 2.4.6-1
Severity: normal
Version 2.4.9 has been released and includes
support for digital photo frames.
