Could you please add a feature, so debhelper (dh-systemd) could help
making systemd drop-in overwrite files
(/lib/systemd/system/unit.service.d/override.conf) take effect?
(systemctl daemon-reload + service restart)
(guarded by [ -d /run/systemd/system ])
