The man pages don't mention these config files in /usr, i.e. you get
weird effects due to some undocumented config files.
Its unexpected (esp. since /etc/lightdm/ can be found in the usual
directory) and it doesn't follow the policy. The policy is very strict
in this case:
Any configuration
Package: lightdm
Version: 1.18.3-1
lightdm and lightdm-gtk-greeter hide some config file directories
in /usr/share/lightdm. According to the debian policy manual 4.1.3.0
they must reside in /etc.

I mean the user name preset on the login screen. The idea is that the previous
user doesn't have to enter his name again. Apparently this name is never reset
but stays forever.

After a first login lightdm reuses this user name as the default
login name forever, instead of using the last user name. Apparently
there is no way to override. Reinstalling lightdm does not help.
