So, having delved into this, I managed to figure out, and partly
circumvent, the issue. It's a race condition between the overlay window
getting destroyed, and the screenshot being taken. Here's a patch that's
applicable against the XFCE git master.

I just ran across this issue - a seemingly empty folder in Thunar - with a
local directory. So, it is not specific to my GDrive mount. The directory
in question had square brackets in the name. Removing [ and ] characters
from the directory name fixed the issue - all files were seen in the
